| Too much of my life has been spent
trying to measure up to others' expectations and being the overachiever in an effort to be
liked and like myself. also, society often only looks at externals to judge your self
worth. This quilt tries to express some of this; the pressure for perfect grades, the
right house, income, physical appearance, weight, and the expectation to follow
institutional rules. In addition, how people are treated as objectes, even when these
artificial measures are attained and the pain it causes, including the emptiness (the
blank space, the strings attached, the little quilting giving little depth) is on the
quilt. The felt freedom when stopped is represented by the butterflies. Back    Next |
