Dreaming of Purple

The inspiration for my love of the needle arts came from my beloved Aunt Caroline. Despite a challenging and difficult life as a farm wife in rural Saskatchewan, she always found time to create beautiful things -- a magnificent flower garden, quilts by the dozen, hand embroidered linens and well sewn and embellished clothing. As well, she had an immaculate house, probably influenced by the rigorous routine imposed by those "days of the week" rules!

My quilt depicts her in her flower garden, dreaming of purple, having abandoned her basket of laundry to the cats who keep on washing.

Machine pieced, soft edge applique, machine embroidering, silk ribbon embroidery, machine quilted.
