"The
Apostle's Creed" is actually *nine*
quilts, all finished, quilted, and bound, before being attached to a background
of organza to make a larger "nine-patch" design. Each quilt depicts one
article of the Apostles' Creed; the article appears in writing on each
quilt: "I believe in God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of Heaven and
Earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. I believe in the Holy
Spirit; the Holy catholic Church; the Communion of Saints; the Forgiveness
of Sins; the Resurrection of the Body; and Life Everlasting. Amen." Each
quilt is intended to stand on its own, in addition to being part of the
whole. Techniques include free-motion machine embroidery, acrylic paint,
hand-dying, hand applique, machine piecing, and machine applique. There
is, of course, plenty of free-motion machine quilting! My "idiot-proof"
camera could not handle the contrast between white, black, and reflective
very well, but I promise the parts that look blank, or that look solid
black, are actually quilts as well! The detail
shot of the "Communion of Saints" quilt shows the free-motion machine
embroidery of two original drawings by the artist. |

"Marbleds and Marbles" is actually two quilts, with the smaller one hanging loosely from the larger. (They are 34.5" by 24.5", and 52.5" by 42.5".) Much of the fabric was hand-marbled by QuiltArt's own Linda Moran of Marble-T Designs, and it is all heavily free-motion quilted. The detail shot shows the corners of both the smaller and the larger quilt. Completed 3/2000. |
