Fine Focus originated with a call for entries in the QuiltArt online network in the fall of 1998, then rapidly expanded through word-of-mouth publicity to a national juried competition. Sandra Sider, juror and curator, conceived this exhibition for the purpose of exploring the concept of small-format art quilts and fiber art in general. Several of the artists created a new work specifically for this competition. Fine Focus consists of fifty works, ranging from 13 to 7 inches on the longest side. Each piece is stitched to canvas, stretched over 16-inch-square mounts. The collection will tour throughout the United States until May of 2001. Selected works from Fine Focus are featured here each month, as we rotate through the entire collection. All fifty works will be presented here in the spring of 2001 after the touring exhibition closes. Premiere venue: November 4, 1999 - January 9, 2000, in the Crest Theatre Gallery of Old School Square, 51 North Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida, 33444-3621, phone 561-243-7922.
