Hand dyed and batik fabrics, assorted fibers. Machine pieced and quilted , needle punch, hand beading.
Artist Statement:
A chant from the Yoruba Tribe of Nigeria inspired this piece:
Yemaya Assessu, Assessu yemaya
Yemaya olodo, Olodo yemaya
The chant celebrates the joining of river to sea and the Goddess of the Ocean, Yemaya.
A literal translation from the Yoruba language:
Yemanja is the Gush of the Spring.
The Gush of the Spring is Yemanja.
The Mother of the Children of Fishes is the Owner of Rivers.
The Owner of Rivers is the Mother of the Children of Fishes.
