Techniques Used:
Wholecloth dyed-by-me fabric with small strips of batik as framing. Free-motion quilted, painted. Poem by my then 10-year-old son, Eli Smith.
Artist Statement:
When I heard my 10-year old son Eli Smith read his poem, "Lost worlds of the Ancient TIme," at the end-of-4th-grade Poet's Corner, I knew instantly I had my Earth theme for this quilt, and the imagery sprang into my head. I researched the paintings by the ancient cave-painters of Lascaux, France, and found the fossilized footprints in Australia through a google search. Here is Eli's poem:
Lost Worlds of the Ancient Time:
Tracks in the mud carry ancient history
Throughout the water of grizzly man
The tracks hold hidden secrets of the ancient world
Treasures from beyond the beyond
The riches that time has forgotten
Ancient worlds lost in time forever.
