Rising from the
Flames of Destruction

Rising from the
Flames of Destruction
by Vickie Meredith Lord of Atlanta, Georgia

Techniques Used:

I used commericial cottons and silks, my personal hand dyed fabrics and professionally done hand dyes; fusing, thread painting, free motion quilting; tulle, cellophane, cheesecloth, twigs, paintsticks, dryer sheets, glitter glue, Sliver holographic thread and metallic thread, beads, fishing lures.

Artist Statement:

Since I usually work in cool colors, I decided to challenge myself with the Elements and do "fire." One night in a dream the image of the Phoenix came to me. It seemed the perfect metaphor for my life right now. I've recently been through a difficult divorce after a long marriage. Now I feel as though, like the Phoenix, I'm being reborn in my true colors.
