Fire:
Controlled and Uncontrolled

Fire:
Controlled and Uncontrolled
by Anne Peck of Belleville, Illinois

Techniques Used:

Much-improved machine quilting with Angelina fibers and metallic thread

Artist Statement:

I decided I wanted to portray fire at two levels--controlled and uncontrolled, and decided to show a fireplace with log burning with a landscape picture above the fireplace that showed a volcano erupting. I managed to depict that, but showing the steam off the water from the hot lava I'll have to save until next time! I assembled it in pieces: the landscape with volcano was done separately; the "wallpaper" was quilted to the batt before the fireplace and mantel were added; and the mantel-my creative weak spot-was done last. I learned a LOT.
