We fear old age, immigrants, and terrorists. We are stressed about
lawsuits, the economy, and our environment. We don't even trust our
own government.
I feel that we here in the United States are a culture wracked with an
undercurrent of fear, and that the over-abundance of information may
actually cause some of the fear.
I have taken one of the common symbols of the U.S.— the colors
red,
white and blue and combined them with snippets from newspapers and
magazines to create another symbol of the U.S.—the shape of the
lower
48 states. I printed the collage on fabric and echo quilted around
the word fear into the collage. The backing fabric is printed with
yet another symbol of our culture—the greenback |
