Mary McBride This is my response to the challenge "Make Quilts, Not War." I am the mother of three sons, ex-wife of an airman, sister of a policeman, and daughter of a fireman, not to mention having various relatives and friends who have served our country, including myself. I am an American and proud of most of what my country represents, but that doesn't mean I have to accept and support a war waged for ego and profit. I protested the Vietnam war (which is probably why my then-husband never got another promotion) and I protest the Iraq assault. I feel that nobody said it better than Picasso with his Guernica mural about the horror of war so I put my own impression of the Guernica mother in the quiltlet using his work as inspiration.
