Quiltart Quinceanero: Jan Girod

The background is hand-dyed and stamped cotton fabric.  For the fish I printed  2 legal documents on inkjet cotton, then painted them using two shades of red Dye-N-Flow after which I ripped them into strips (very cathartic) and wove them back together.  The pattern for the red herring was created on freezer paper, fast and effective.  Machine quilted, embellished with hand embroidery and beading....including an actual fishing hook.
During my years on QuiltArt I remembered many discussions regarding creating pieces to reflect events in our lives.  Well I took those to heart and created "She's a Red Herring" to work through my disgust with the legal system and their inability to see they were being led by someone less than honest.
